The most important cross-town line running from Dogpatch to the Marina. Also, the line with the most bum fights and screaming children. Worst stretch: 16th/Mission to Haight/Fillmore.
If you are going from Haight/Masonic to downtown or back what is the difference between this line and the 71? Usually fewer people because tourists don't know where this line goes. :)
Why pay $8 each way for SFO using BART? Book the earliest conceivable flight and take the 4:20 am bus for $4 each way! The 397 drops you in the airport courtyards. Go up one level for departures.
The easiest line to understand: it goes from Market downtown through the Haight to Noriega Street in the Avenues. Oodles of wide-eyed tourists dayside. Copious, blatant drug use in the evenings.
The hardest line to understand: sometimes above ground, sometimes below ground. Doesn't the 71 go, a few blocks apart, to the exact same places? Why does the N always stall at the Duboce tunnel? Ugh!
There is pretty much no reason to take the 38 Local which stops at every fire hydrant. Just calling this bus "Limited" strangely gives the driver the super power of not caring how fast s/he goes.
On Sundays and holidays this bus can't be beat for getting you out to the Marin Headlands. Be sure to use 511.org Trip Planner and DO NOT miss your return time or you will end up sleeping in the park.
Best for trips from Castro to any point on Embarcadero. Board at 17th and Castro, bring a book, and let the world shuffle by. BTW, the orange, Italian cars look cool but are super uncomfortable.
This is how you get from a cool place to live to classes at SF State and City College. Living near campus WILL NOT save you money and you WILL be miserable with no-fun Xian neighbors and NIMBY types.
Do we really need all these stops? I can understand one stop at City Hall, but TWO? It's only one block! And, after Pine, does anyone really need more than Union, Chestnut, and the Wharf? Really?
