A Kansan's take on the LA food scene. On the weekends I like to find where the locals head for eats. Here's the culmination of my research so far. LA friends - share suggestions or add your own!
Sara: Check out the menu for monthly and daily cupcake flavors. The Hummingbird is a unique blend of ingredients with an even more unique name, and it does not disappoint!
Sara: Usually just go for water? Splurge and order a Shirley Temple. The glasses are mammoth and they throw in a handful of cherries. This is a great spot for brunch.
Sara: Joan's is a household name for LA locals and a hotspot for celebrity sightings. Come in and pick up a fresh loaf of bread, or stay and order a hot dinner. You can count on fresh, natural ingredients.

Sara: This Mexican restaurant is famous for its (in)famous fans - Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. Great ambience and delicious food with reasonable prices.

Sara: Tucked away in a quiet area of the usually-bustling 3rd Street. The waitstaff is polite, the food is delicious, and the check comes in a mason jar with a Tootsie Pop! What's not to love?
Sara: The weekend special says it all: $3 unlimited mimosas with breakfast purchase (uh, only like $6). A friend and I got two entrees and 13 mimosas for $20. Why would you NOT eat here for brunch?

Sara: Quaint, hole-in-the-wall, authentic Italian place. I like to brush up my Italian by speaking with the owner, who is so sweet. Great food and great atmosphere make for a great place.

Sara: Not exactly LA (it's in NoHo), but close enough. This little cafe offers a range of food with great drink specials ($4 beer). Try the arrabbiata for a simple, but delicious, pasta dish.

Sara: Honestly can't fit my thoughts on this place in foursquare's allotted amount. You MUST experience this for yourself! The atmosphere is incomparable to anywhere else. Good food, great wine selection.
