I love seeing all the spices u can find here (being a foody and all), but if you want cheaper, check out the Old Souk which is opposite (or an Abra ride from there).
The Spice Souq offers a great opportunity to do some shopping for, among others, spices probably at great prices. Sellers here are quite obtrusive and pushy where which really damages the experience.
It’s really fun to go here at night. The merchants are pretty aggressive so I don’t recommend going alone if you are a woman. Really great stuff to buy here (spices, remedies, gifts).

There's a shop near spice market where you can buy pure saffron at a reasonable price. The name of the shop is Nami Saffron. You may also visit their website www.namisaffron.com :)
The creekside Spice Souq stalls long ago succumbed to tourism, but you can still get a feel for old Arabia at the restored Heritage House and Al Ahmadiya School, with their airy courtyards.
