Great historic trail with lots to see and many great diversions if you want longer hikes. Great for kids and picnics in the shade down in the wash.

Best place to eat in town. The shrimp and the ribs are great options, along the the desert taster. Small place but they do takeout as well. Good kids pizza.
Friendly staff who are helpful. It’s the only game in town, so some of the items are odd but the y got a great beer and snack selection. Firewood is expensive.
Wonderful historic site that tells a fascinating history. The main site can be crowded, so be sure to do the loop trail by the beach that connects to the 1871 trail to see some great other ruins.

Delicious fish place although lacking a bit in ambiance. The albacore Katsura is interesting and the poke great. There can be a long wait for a hot table outside.
Nice spot and temple, but be sure to kayak across the bay and snorkel by the monument and historic cliffs to get a full sense of this incredible bay. A highlight of any trip to the big island.
Incredible historic spot to snorkel in. Kayak over is pretty easy and amazing. Go early before the asshole big tour boats arrive and spoil it. Look for manta rays on the way back under the cliff.
